What is 7 on 7?

7 on 7 football is a fast paced, pass oriented form of football that was designed to hone the skills of high school football players in the spring without putting the physical toll on their bodies. The games are played on half of a football field with offenses always moving towards the same endzone. There are no running plays allowed, although dumping the ball off to a RB behind the line of scrimmage is permitted. There is no pass rush and the QB must release the ball in a limited amount of time or be penalized. No safety equpitment is worn (other than the mandatory mouth guard), so contact is very limited. No tackling is permitted; simply touching the offensive player stops play. For a complete set of rules, please see the official rules. Also see the special rules below that will be used for various age groups.

Age Groups/Divisions

Divisions will be established as defined below. If a division fails to make a 4 team minimum, it will be combined with another division .

Minor: Currently in the 2nd or 3rd grade (NO 4th GRADERS)

Major: Currently in the 4th and 5th grade (NO 6th GRADERS)

Junior High: Currently in the 6th and 7th grade (NO 8th GRADERS)

Special Rules

* PATs: the "extra point" is achieved by scoring from the 5-yard line. For a two-point conversion, the ball is placed on the 10-yard line. Interceptions on a PAT attempt are dead balls and worth 2 pts to the defense..

* There are no time outs, just one continuous clock that runs. Each half is 20 minutes with a 10-minute half-time.

* The quarterback only has 4 seconds to throw the ball (6 seconds for minor level). Time starts when the ball is snapped and stops it when the quarterback releases the ball.. If that time is over 4 (or 6)seconds, it results in a loss of down no matter the result of the play.

* Mouth pieces are mandatory

* Each team will use its own ball during offensive possessions. K2 balls for the Minor level only. Major and Junior High use a TDJ or TDY sized ball.

* Fumbles and interceptions are dead balls at the spot with the last team retaining possession. An interception will award 2 pts. to the defense. A fumble can be recovered by the offensive player who fumbles or any defensive player. If the defense recovers a fumble posession changes. A defensive player cannot strip a ball from an offensive player however, if an offensive player loses control of the ball after establishing possesion, it can be recovered by the offensive player who fumbled or any defensive player. Other offensive players are ineligable to recover a fumble and in the event that an ineligable offensive player recovers a fumble, the result will be a turnover to the defense. A muffed snap is not a fumble/dead ball. The 4.0 second count remains in affect on snaps.

*. Each team will have 35 seconds to snap the ball once it has been marked ready for play; delay
of game penalty will be loss of down plus 5 yards. Minor, major, and junior high teams will have 35 seconds to snap once the ball has been marked for play. The same penalty applies.

* Interceptions are worth 2 pts to the defense. An interceptions results in a dead ball change of posession.

*All passes are forward and there must be at least 3 yards separation between passer and reciever. This means there are NO DOUBLE PASSES as that would constitute 2 forward passes. "Shuffle" passes are permitted as long as the 3 yard separation is achieved between passer and receiver.

* Once a receiver catches a ball, all other offensive players must stop at their current position. They cannot block or be eligable to obtain the ball in any manner (i.e. hook and latter/ hitch and pitch).

*JH, and Major Division start at the 40 yrd line and have 15 yard intervals for the first and second set of downs, and a 10 yard interval for goal-to go.

*Minor Division will start at the 30 yrd line and have 10 yard intervals.

*All divisions have 4 downs at all intervals.
